Slow Down on Winter Roadways

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

The snows have come early to New England this year. Where I live in Central New Hampshire, there is a possibility we will get another foot of it over the weekend. This is good news for skiers and the local economy but not for motorists. Because as we all know winter storms can make for treacherous driving.

Motor Vehicle Accidents and Driver Inattention

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

Driver inatttention can cause motor vehicle accidents resulting in serious personal injury. Entering limited access highways the wrong way happens more often than expected. In 2002, a van entered Intersate 89 at exit 16 the wrong way, going south in the northbound lanes. This resulted in accidents involving four vehicles. No one was killed but several persons sustained serious injuries. .

Thanksgiving Travel and Automobile Safety

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

Once again the holiday season is upon us. Many of us will be traveling to spend Thanksgiving with our families and loved ones. Unfortunately, the roads are very crowded during Thanksgiving rush. In many parts of the country this holiday also coincides with the first wintry weather of the season. This morning, for instance, I drove from Boston to Orford, New Hampshire and saw at least a dozen cars off the road as the result of a sleet storm.

Insurance Company Doctors Often Don't Give Accident Victims The Benefit Of The Doubt.

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

When an accident victim makes a claim against a negligent driver, who is insured, it is the driver's insurance company that handles the claim. Often the company insists that the injury victim undergo an examination by a doctor working for it. The insurance companies refer to these examinations as "Independent Medical Examinations". Of course, there is nothing independent about them. The company is paying the doctor and it is in the company's interest that the doctor minimize the injuries caused by the accident.

Teenagers and Car Accidents

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

Statistics show that teenagers are involved in a disproportionate amount of car accidents involving personal injury. 6,000 teens are killed in car accidents every year. AAA has designated this week as National Teen Driver Safety Week. I think that any effort that brings more attention to teen driving safety issues is a good idea.

Kudos to Bennington PD for Car Accident Prevention Efforts

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

We would like to congratulate the Bennington Police Department for receiving recognition by the Vermont Governor's Highway Safety Program for its traffic safety record. Paul Doucette, Jr., a lieutenant in the Bennington PD responded to the award saying: "It was the highest score ever seen in the Vermont Law Enforcement Challenge. We couldn't do it without our dispatchers giving us the information. We couldn't do it without the community's support."

Juries Respect Victims Who Keep Working

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

Recently, a 101 year old man named Ray Jenkins has gotten a lot of publicity for being the oldest American still working. Mr. Jenkins, who is exceptionally modest, doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. I think what people find so inspiring about him is that he's overcome the odds and continued to be productive.

Victims of Multiple Auto Accidents Have Unique Challenges in Getting Justice

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

Over my career, I have represented quite a few people for injuries they suffered in multiple car accidents. This type of client presents some unique challenges for a victim's lawyer particularly if the injuries suffered in both accidents are similar and the accidents occurred fairly close to each other in time.

Even Low Impact Automobile Collisions Can Cause Major Injuries

Can the family of a child killed in an auto accident caused by the reckless conduct of another driver sue that driver for punitive damages? Speeding on Route 9 and Car Accident Injury Law

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

Every one knows that the faster you drive, the better the chances of having a car accident, right? Nevertheless time and time again we see articles like the one in the Brattleboro Reformer on July 4th. Here's a short quote.

"The cars zip down the road, pushing the pedal down, going 60, 70, 80, 90 mph. No, it's not the Autobahn, it's Route 9 in Vermont. The twisting road, with its short stretches of passing lanes, has developed a reputation over the years as one of the most dangerous roads in Vermont."

However, torn, strained or sprained ligaments or tendons, so-called soft tissue injuries, may still entitle a personal injury victim to a substantial settlement.

Personal Injury Firm's Track Record

Category: Motor Vehicle Accidents

The law firm handling your personal injury claim should have a proven track record in jury trials. When a personal injury claim cannot be settled it is resolved by a jury trial. Insurance company's will usually only pay top settlements to personal injury victims represented by attorneys with proven track records in court. When personal injury victims are represented by lawyers with only limited experience or limited success insurance company's and defense lawyers often take advantage of this and offer limited settlements or try to defeat the claim in court. Make sure the law firm you hire for your personal injury case has a successful track record in personal injury jury trials.

Our law firm has a proven track record. We have successfully tried jury cases to conclusion in five different states. We have been awarded some of the largest jury verdicts on record in some areas of law. We have achieved millions of dollars in jury verdicts for our clients. Insurance companies and defense lawyers know us and respect us. This is all to the benefit of our clients.
